Floating, also called a sensory deprivation tanks, or restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST) is used in many high-end spas to promote relaxation and reduce outside stimulus such as sound, touch and light giving you the ability to quiet the mind and focus on the mind body experience. This can aid in deeper relaxation, mental clarity, stress reduction and better sleep. The float tanks are filled with around 1000 lbs of Epsom salt, making the water very buoyant, and giving you the ability to float with no worries of sinking.
The float tanks are filled with 2ft of water and around 800-000 lbs of Epsom salt is added to create you floating experience. The buoyancy of the water allows you to lay in the tank with no worries of sinking or getting your nose and eyes in the water. The water is heated to body temperature and the float tanks are sound and light proof. You may also choose to leave the door of the float tank open if you feel more comfortable that way. Floating is used to promote sensory deprivation so the ultimate relaxation experience can be had. This can help you reach a deeper state of meditation without any distractions from the other senses, ease pain, reduce depression and anxiety symptoms, elevate mood and give a sense of overall wellbeing. Floats can last from 60-90 mins.

Avoid high amounts of caffeine or shaving/ waxing the day of your float- it can result in burning from the salt water. If you wear contact lenses you will want to remove them during your float experience. You may wear a bathing suit or forgo clothing during your float. Women who are pregnant should consult with their health care provider before using a sensory deprivation tank.
